RED NACIONAL DE ESTACIONES OCEANOGRÁFICAS Y METEOROLÓGICAS

El IMT fue creado en el año de 1987 y realiza investigación de temas relacionados con el transporte carretero, marítimo ferroviario, aéreo y multimodal. En el año 2004, el Instituto Mexicano del Transporte en forma conjunta con la Coordinación General de Puertos y sus tres Direcciones Generales, puso en operación la Red Nacional de Estaciones Oceanográficas y Meteorológicas RENEOM para aportar al sector marítimo de México información de las condiciones oceanográficas y meteorológicas que imperan en los puertos Mexicanos.

La RENEOM está conformada por boyas de medición, estaciones mareográficas y estaciones meteorológicas, distribuidas en 44 sitios estratégicos a lo largo de las costas Mexicanas; con la finalidad de medir las características del oleaje, temperatura superficial del agua de mar, variaciones del nivel del mar y variables meteorológicas.

 

Cómo los equipos de medición cuentan con sistemas de telemetría para transmitir las mediciones de las condiciones océano meteorológicas, la información que se genera puede ser consultada por el público en general aunque es utilizada principalmente por las autoridades portuarias, por los usuarios y prestadores de servicios de los puertos Mexicanos. Con el proyecto RENEOM el IMT forma parte del Sistema Nacional de Alerta de tsunamis (SINAT) y ha permitido que el Instituto estreche  vínculos con Universidades y Centros de Investigación.

NATIONAL OCEANOGRAPHIC AND WEATHER STATIONS NETWORK

  

The Mexican Institute of Transport (IMT) was created in 1987 to conduct research on issues related to rail, air, road, shipping and multimodal transport. In 2004, the IMT along with the General Coordination of Ports and Merchant Navy, and its three General Management Offices began to operate the National Oceanographic and Weather Stations Network (Red Nacional de Estaciones Oceanográficas y Meteorológicas RENEOM) to provide the Maritime Sector of Mexico information about oceanographic and weather conditions prevailing in the Mexican ports.

The RENEOM consists of measuring buoys, tide gauge and weather stations spread over 44 strategic locations along the Mexican coast; in order to measure the characteristics of waves, surface temperature of seawater, sea level variations and meteorological variables.

​

Because the measuring equipment uses the Argos satellite system to transmit measurements of ocean conditions, the information generated can be consulted by the general public, but is mainly used by port authorities and Mexican port users and suppliers. With the RENEOM project, the IMT is part of the National Tsunami Warning System of Mexico (Sistema Nacional de Alerta de Tsunamis SINAT), and also, it has allowed the groups to strengthen links with universities and research centers.
