DR. MATTHEW WITT

Dr. Witt’s research focuses on marine ecology, looking specifically at the distribution and behaviour of mobile marine species, including turtles, sharks and seabirds. Acquiring this knowledge is often challenging so his work uses a wide range of technologies, including satellite tracking, acoustic detection and videography. He is especially interested in integrating satellite-derived environmental datasets with information on marine species distribution and knowledge on man’s behaviour to determine likely areas of conflict. His current research projects include the satellite tracking of basking sharks in the northeast Atlantic, assessing the effects of marine energy generation on host ecosystems and the development of acoustic based methods to describe marine biodiversity.
